Project Manager, Hospital Equity and Accountability Project

POSITION SUMMARY

The Hospital Equity and Accountability Project is leading Community Catalyst work to address the negative impact of hospital and health industry consolidation on medically-underserved communities and individuals, including Black, Latinx, Indigenous and other people of color, immigrants, women, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, older adults and rural residents. The project is conducting state-specific work in New York State with the support of the NYS Health Foundation and national work with the support of the Tara Health Foundation and Collaborative for Gender and Reproductive Equity.

The Project Manager will be responsible for assisting in management of this work, including project development and grant management, tracking progress in meeting project grant deliverables, documenting accomplishments, lifting up the project’s work internally and externally and engaging national and state partner organizations.

This position is included in a collective bargaining unit represented by a staff union, Community Catalyst United, and specific employment terms may be subject to a future Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

Supervision:

The Project Manager is supervised by the Associate Director, Hospital Equity and Accountability Project.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in overall management of the project, including contributing to development of an annual work plan and tracking of how project achievements are advancing Community Catalyst’s Strategic Plan priorities.
  • Oversee development and execution of contracts for project sub-grantees and consultants, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and internal Community Catalyst procedures.
  • Assist Senior Advisor in monitoring grant spending and ensuring timely payment of sub-grantees and consultants.
  • Track and report on progress of the project and its sub-grantees and consultants in meeting grant timelines and deliverables, flagging for the Senior Advisor any accomplishments achieved or emerging problems with meeting grant deliverables.
  • Facilitate the activities of project working groups and learning communities, through development of meeting agendas and supporting materials, identification/communication of key next steps, creation and updating of shared folders and email distribution lists.
  • Coordinate development of any needed campaign tools, policy briefs, fact sheets and other resources based on project needs and priorities.
  • Assist in documenting and communicating the achievement of grant deliverables to internal and external audiences, including funders and state/national partners through:
    • Preparation and timely submission of grant reports to existing funders and proposals to potential new funders, in collaboration with CC Development team.
    • Crafting blog posts, reports, PowerPoint presentations, newsletter articles, social media postings and other communications.
    • Providing communications, strategic guidance, and technical assistance to grantees
  • In coordination with other project staff, maintain regular communication with collaborating national and state partner organizations, and carry out communications activities to ensure the visibility of the project.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to sub-grantee organizations, as needed.
  • Assist in tracking federal, state and local policy developments in project focus areas in order to inform project strategy and activities.
  • Coordinate closely with related Community Catalyst programs to assure maximum synergy and learning.
  • Participate in meeting with key stakeholders and advisors as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the goals of the project.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree plus at least 4 years relevant work experience, or 6 relevant work experience.

• Strong organizational skills, including ability to manage several projects at once in a fast-paced environment, and highly-developed attention to detail.

• Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal health policy issues related to health equity, reproductive justice and LGBTQ+ health issues.

• Demonstrated knowledge of the political process and experience influencing such policy, especially in New York State, is preferred.

• Demonstrated knowledge of how the U.S. health delivery system is organized, funded and regulated.

• Commitment to social justice and experience in social change activism such as: legislative advocacy or political/policy issue campaigns; community organizing; working with coalitions and stakeholders; and/or implementing communications strategies

• Strong written and verbal communications skills. Ability to convey complex information in writing and speaking so that it is easily understood by the public and by health advocates.

• Experience with working independently in a collaborative team environment

• Experience providing technical assistance, coaching and/or support to non-profit organizations

 

BENEFITS & SALARY RANGE

• Salary range: $63,000-70,000
